CS GO has been the heyday of competitive FPS enthusiasts for many, many years, but Valve would have a huge surprise in its boxes.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive , aka CS GO , has been one of the most played games on Steam since its release in 2012. Players are still there, and in huge numbers. The title has also made a name for itself in esports and generates crazy sums alongside DOTA 2 , another major game from Valve. But all this could well change soon since many very serious reports affirm that there will be new for Counter Strike , and it would be imminent.
New for Counter Strike
This is what Richard Lewis , eminent eSport journalist to whom we owe a number of revelations concerning the sports scene, tells us. He is notably one of those who revealed the scandals concerning cheating in the high levels of competition on CS GO .
Lewis returns today to announce that a new FPS, for the moment called Counter Strike 2 , would be about to be deployed by Valve. Its sources have indeed declared that “a new version of Counter-Strike is on the way”, a new game on which the developers have been working “for a long time”. (via VGC )
Even better, according to Lewis, an announcement and a beta would be planned in the next few days. So it’s imminent.
NVIDIA spills the beans too?
And if this information captures our attention, it is because other sources also seem to confirm the news. Fine-nosed users have indeed noticed that a recent NVIDIA update mentioned several unknown executive files and optimizations for titles that have yet to be announced, CS 2 (cs2.exe) and CS GO 2 (csgos2 .exe)
A revamp of CS GO? A Counter-Strike 2? something is coming
Doubt is therefore no longer allowed, Valve is preparing something huge and we should know more soon. However, several dataminers and informants claim that it would not really be a new game, but rather a kind of complete overhaul of CS GO which would then be ported to Valve’s new graphics engine, the Source 2.
I have fairly reliable information that Valve has been testing CS GO on Source 2 with the help of third-party QA companies in the US and Europe since at least early December. I can’t confirm this 100%, but it’s viable enough to share.
Remember that until the company officially confirms anything, it should be considered speculation. Especially things related to “third parties”.
Well, anyway, it’s not Half Life 3
But without official information, it is currently difficult to see very clearly. What is certain is that the fans are on the alert and waiting for news. Players have been waiting for years for new games from the giant which, until now, mainly developed its Steam platform and a good number of hardware such as the Steam Deck , the Steam Controller or the Valve Index. But while many are waiting for the famous Half Life 3 , or even a Left 4 Dead 3 , it would finally be Counter Strike that would have the right to a little something. We just have to wait for an official announcement now.
